Spiritual healing is a complementary practice to orthodox medicine and certainly shouldn’t be thought of as a replacement for more traditional medicinal practices. Although it is true that spiritual healing can be used to treat physical and psychological symptoms, it is more commonly used to work with the ‘whole self’ which means it works on all levels.
Myths About Spiritual Healing
Many people believe that to be able to receive spiritual healing that you need to have faith in a particular religion or mantra. This is not true. In fact, all you need to be able to be treated in this way is an open mind and acceptance of the methods used. The more positive the mindset of the patient the more positive the experience is likely to be and ultimately a more positive result can be expected if a patient approaches spiritual healing in this way. The myth that spiritual healing requires faith in a certain religion comes from another form of energy healing known as faith healing, which should not be confused with spiritual healing.
The term ‘energy medicine’ (which spiritual healing falls under) has been around since the 1980’s and the evidence to support its effectiveness is unsubstantiated at this moment in time, but with an ever growing number of personal testimonies to support the argument for spiritual healing it would be a naïve soul that dismissed it readily. Although only really discussed in more recognized medical circles over the last three decades, spiritual healing has existed and been used for centuries.
How Does Spiritual Healing Work?
The basic principle behind spiritual healing is the use of the practitioner’s sixth sense, which is commonly referred to as ESP (Extra Sensory Perception). The treatment itself can be administered using hands on, hands off or absent methods of healing. The most common type of spiritual healing used is hands on although it is not uncommon to find healers who use all three methods.
Hands On Spirtual Healing
Dating back to Ancient Greek times, hands on energy healing has both its fans and its cynics. Usually when this method is adopted the hands are used to send energy through the patients body and redirect it to where it needs to go to give more balance. There are times when the negative energy is released from the body and when this is the case the healer will usually send positive energy in with the left hand and send the negative energy out with the right hand. Some patients claim an immediate sense of recovery from their ailments whereas others state that it takes time.
Hands Off Spiritual Healing
Hands off healing is also sometimes confusingly referred to as distant healing and it means exactly that. It is a type of spiritual healing where the healer and patient are in the same room but the use of thought rather than touch is used to explore and manipulate the energy in the body. This type of energy healing can be just as powerful as other methods but is less common than hands on healing.
Distant (absent) Healing
As previously stated, there is some confusion around the exact terms to describe this type of healing, but it is widely accepted that distant (absent) healing is the practice of spiritual healing that takes place when the patient and healer are not present in the same location.
Similar to hands off spiritual healing, the practice of distant healing uses the power of spiritual thought to send positive energy to the receiver. This can be practiced by a professional energy healer or by anyone who has a desire to take part in it. The power of distant healing is that many people can use it as a collective to pass a significant amount of positive energy to someone or a group of people.
Commonly used to help people who are victims of natural disasters, terrorist attacks and natural diseases, distant healing can offer real hope and light even in the very darkest moments of humanity.
Tips For Having A Successful Spiritual Healing Experience
The key to having a positive experience is having an open mind and trying to be as relaxed as possible. If you are skeptical then it is highly likely that your experience will not be positive. Although there is a contradiction in evidence from studies as to the impact of spiritual healing, there are a plethora of personal testimonies from people who approach energy healing with an open mind as to the benefits that it has had on their spirituality and/or symptoms.
If you are apprehensive prior to your session then it is best to try and find ways to relax for a few minutes before the session starts. Try using a range of breathing techniques to assist with relaxation.
Lastly, it is likely that you will notice changes in your body whilst the treatment is in progress. You may become hotter or colder. If this is the case, remember that this is completely normal and nothing to be self conscious about – stay relaxed and the treatment is highly likely to be more successful.
